Thanks to the councillors' initiative fund, a local cricket club venue can open its doors to all sections of the community with the installation of its brand new lavatory for people with a disability.
The new facility was installed immediately after the club received £3,000 from the fund late last year, which local councillor Sarah Bevan happily gave to the club.
Chairman of the committee, William Derrick, said:
'Peasedown cricket club and all its users would like to express its sincere thanks to Cllr Bevan and to the fund for this excellent facility. It enables us to offer a venue previously unavailable to those with a disability and makes us fully compliant with the Disability Discrimination Act 1998'.
Cllr Bevan added:
'This club has extremely dedicated voluntary members, who give time and attention to running the club and providing facilities for cricket teams and their extended families - all it needed was a cash boost to complement existing opportunities for local people. The funding may also stretch to a supervised bouncy castle for younger siblings of players - roll on summer!'
