Christmas comes early for six community groups in Peasedown E-mail
Six lucky organisations in Peasedown St John have been awarded a total of £4,000 between them in recognition of their work for local residents.
Councillor Sarah Bevan approached many local groups asking whether they had outstanding projects which had stalled or simply been written off owing to lack of funding. They included Peasedown Cricket Club, Peasedown St John Lunch Club, Peasedown Youth Club, Peasedown St John Community Association, and Peasedown Opportunity Project, all of whom were successful.
Cllr Bevan said:
"When I first wrote to the leaders of these groups, I wanted to ensure that I could contribute something to each of them, and it worked out perfectly, right down to the last 1p! These clubs have been running for a long time, giving so much benefit to this community. I wanted to enable each of them to continue doing this, and reward long serving and hard working local people, many of whom give their time free of charge for the benefit of others."
The projects which will now go ahead include Wi Fi availability at the community centre in French Close, a lavatory for people with a disability at the Cricket club, a Christmas party and an extra day out for lunch club members, cookery lessons for members of Peasedown Opportunity Project and brand new table tennis equipment for members of Peasedown Youth Club.
Cllr Bevan added:
"I have visited all the groups on various occasions, and I'm really hoping they'll all invite me back again to admire the completed projects - the cookery lessons are a particular interest for me, as I could do with some new ideas myself."
