Residents get safe passage to the pub and home again - 4th Nov '09 E-mail
A vital pedestrian walkway leading to Peasedown St John hostelry The Prince of Wales and to many residents' homes has finally been almost doubled in width. The path runs directly next to one of the busiest, most dangerous main roads into Bath, where the collision statistics prompted many recent safety measures by Bath and North East Somerset council.

Cllr Bevan said:
"This pavement has no verge to protect walkers from the heavy, fast-moving and continuous traffic. I was also concerned that public houses are now closing at an alarming rate in the wider area, and decided that widening this path was a project worth pursuing on many levels to benefit the local community and a local business."
The path is also the only route for villagers to the village green, which up until recently has rarely been accessed by local people, due to its extreme proximity to the A367 and the lack of any fencing or planting to protect visitors.
Cllr Bevan added:
"There have been 17 accidents over 3 years on the nearby bypass which is part of this same road, the A367, so anything I can do to reduce the risk for motorists and pedestrians alike, is worth doing."
