Somerset MP and government minister backs Simon Allen |
Radstock received a VIP guest on Friday, when Somerset MP and government minister David Heath visited the town to back Lib Dem Simon Allen for next week's local by election.
David Heath, who is the MP for Somerton and Frome and the Deputy Leader of the House of Commons, believes Simon will make an excellent councillor.
He said: "Radstock is in need of a fresh start. The infighting amongst the Labour Party over the years has caused disillusionment with local democracy.
Trust in politicians here is quite low, which is why the town needs a councillor to lead from the front, build community spirit and restore civic pride. Simon Allen is a local man with the needs of local people close to his heart."

Radstock residents are calling for action to be taken to reduce the speed of traffic on Frome Road.
The A362 sees hundreds of cars every day exceeding the speed limit, causing danger to pedestrians and residents living nearby.
Local resident Simon Allen has written to Bath and North East Somerset Council requesting that measures are taken to reduce the speed of traffic. He said: "I've spoken to many people in Radstock that want to see action taken. The speed of vehicles coming down the hill is often too fast."
Mr Allen has also asked the Council why there are signs indicating that speed cameras exist in the area, but in fact none can be found.
