I see Cllr Gordon Wood is taking me to task in last week’s Chron and explaining how nothing is the Conservative's fault. Well he is half right! The light reflecting bollards being the wrong way round on the new ‘half a bus lane’ may be charged to the contractors but surely it was the responsibility of a Council officer to specify the job and then to specify the correction. That’s poor work in the first place AND an extra cost to the tax payer.
Next point: Whilst the Lib Dems may have been the largest group on the council during the last administration when there was a 7 per cent council tax rise, who was the Cabinet member responsible for finance? Answer - Conservative Councillor Hannay.
Finally: The half a bus lane may be financed by a Government fund but who supplies Government funds? Surely us - through income tax.
I still think the public transport system in Bath and North East Somerset leaves a lot to be desired – and its too expensive.

I would like to join Cllr Jackson in thanking everyone who was involved in winning the Gold for Radstock in the South West in Bloom competition.
However, I find it rather strange that no mention was made by Cllr Jackson to the overall Midsomer Norton and Radstock ’In Bloom’ Committee' which works all year on the entries for both towns and which is chaired by Nicola Ware, ably supported by an incredibly hard working committee. (It is also part of the Somer Valley partnership supported by B&NES).

Dear Editor
I recently arranged a tour with our experienced and very industrious Traffic and Safety Highways Officer of the various highways issues in need of attention in Peasedown St John. Many of the associated tasks have now been carried out to the Council's usual high standards of workmanship, ably assisted by our partner contractors, Atkins.

The Oddown Bus Lane saga continues... 14th Sep '09 |
|
“Conservative Council spends £1million on a 700 yard bus lane... and they can't even get the poles round the right way!” said Lib Dem Parliamentary hopeful Gail Coleshill.
Lib Dems have discovered another boob with the Odd Down bus lane which cost nearly a £1million. They have found that the light reflective poles are the wrong way round.
Gail and Louise next to the light reflective poles - positioned around the wrong way!
